Badgers edge Polish U20 team

Volleyball improves to 3-0 in European Tour
MARIBOR, Slovenia – After a day of sightseeing in the old town of Maribor, the Wisconsin volleyball team ended up with a 2-1 win over the Polish U20 team on Monday afternoon. The Badgers won the first set 25-20 but lost the second 25-18. Wisconsin rallied to take the third set 25-19. The two teams played a friendly fourth set with the Polish team winning 25-23.
The Badgers had three players record 10-or-more kills to lead their offense. Junior Dana Rettke played in her first match of the tour, recording a team-high 15 kills in only three sets. Junior Grace Loberg put away 13 kills while redshirt sophomore Danielle Hart tallied 12 kills, which would have been a career high. Junior Molly Haggerty added seven kills for UW.
Wisconsin scored 10 points from the service line with Haggerty, Izzy Ashburn, Lauren Barnes and Tiffany Clark all recording two service aces. Rettke and Mallory Dixon both scored on one ace.
UW outblocked Poland 7-6 with Rettke leading the way with four stuffs. Junior Nicole Shanahan added three blocks in only two sets.
All 16 eligible players saw action in at least one set as the Badgers used numerous lineups during the match.
Up Next
The Badgers travel to Lake Bled, Slovenia, for a day trip on Tuesday. The team then continues on to Venice, Italy, where it will stay for two nights.
