MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's track and field standouts
Amy Davis,
Alissa Niggemann and
Banke Oginni will cap off the collegiate track and field season with the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 5-8, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
1. A FAMILY AFFAIR IN AUSTIN: Junior
Amy Davis will make her NCAA outdoor track and field championships debut in the 10,000 meters, in Austin, Texas, 34 years after her mother, Nan (Doak) Davis, won the 10,000 meters at the 1985 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Davis is coming off of a 10th-place finish in the event at the NCAA West Prelims last month in Sacramento and set a PR of 33:12.26 at the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Davis will race on Thursday at 9:38 p.m. CT.
2. A HISTORIC SEASON FOR ALISSA: Sophomore
Alissa Niggemann enters the weekend on a streak in the steeplechase with back-to-back notable performances in the event. Niggemann became the first Badger to win a conference title in the steeplechase in the middle of May before shattering the school record at the NCAA West Prelims with a time of 9:53:54. She broke Ashley Beutler's previous school best by more than 10 seconds. She looks to become only the second Badger to earn first-team All-America honors in the event as she will race in the semifinals of the steeplechase on Thursday at 7:32 p.m. CT while the finals will take place on Saturday at 5:54 p.m.
3. BANKE'S BACK FOR MORE: Senior
Banke Oginni will make her fifth NCAA championship appearance this week as she will throw the shot put on Thursday at 9:10 p.m. CT. Oginni has earned five second-team All-America honors during her Badger career and will leave UW as one of the most decorated throwers in school history. A captain for UW this year, Oginni holds the school record in the weight throw and holds top-three marks in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and hammer throw.
4. NEW PLACE FOR NATIONALS: For the first time since 2004, the University of Texas will serve as host for the NCAA outdoor track and field championships. This year marks the seventh time Texas has hosted the national outdoor champions and the school will also host the 2020 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year's meet also marks the first time since 2012 that the NCAA meet has not been held in Eugene, Oregon.
