Liebold, Olofsson, lead Badgers to win over UAB
MADISON, Wis. – In a Sunday night showing at the McClimon Soccer Complex, the Wisconsin men's soccer came out with a 2-1 win over UAB.
After being defeated on home turf Friday night, the Badgers (1-1-0) came into this game with ammunition to finish the weekend with a win. The team delivered in the first half with shutting out the Blazers (0-2-) and scoring their first goal of the season.
Â
Senior captain Noah Liebold scored his first goal of the season off a free kick giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the game off a free kick to the right of the UAB keeper.
Â
Wisconsin carried the intensity into the second half and recorded its second goal of the night in the 60th minute. With an assist from Andrew Akindele, Robin Olofsson snuck the ball past the UAB goalie to further the lead.
Â
The Blazers were able to score on the Wisconsin defense in the 74th minute of the second half. This would be their only goal of the night, as UW keeper Dean Cowdroy recorded four saves to keep the Badgers on top.
Â
"It feels great," Liebold said. "First win of the season, it's a huge confidence booster. I think it just shows what the team is capable of."
Â
Up Next:
The Badgers will take on Bowling Green this upcoming Friday (5 p.m.) before facing Lehigh on Sunday (12 p.m.) in Evanston, Illinois.
