Wisconsin tennis heads to Metroplex Mania
MADISON, Wis. – After a successful fall season traveling around the country to compete, the Badgers are on the road again to kick-off their spring season in Dallas, Texas at the Metroplex Mania tournament. Here are five things you need to know before following along:
1. FALL RECAP: The Badgers finished up their fall season in Tallahassee, Florida, but not before traveling all around the country to compete against some of the best in tennis. Wisconsin played in six fall tournaments from Alabama to San Francisco and Michigan to Oklahoma. Competing in both double and singles along the way, the seven Badgers gelled with one another after returning four members from last year's NCAA Tournament team. Top performers were Antonela Stoica with a singles record of 6-4 and the top duo for the Badgers was Melissa Pick and Miruna Tudor going 3-0.
2. SPRING HAS SPRUNG: The spring season has finally come for these Badgers and they are ready to get going. A look ahead at what the spring season looks like for Wisconsin includes two neutral site tournaments, nine home matchups and ten road duels. While competing in the Big Ten, Wisconsin will also face off against non-conference foes in Drake, NIU, Marquette, DePaul, Denver, VCU, William & Mary and UCSB.
3. WHO TO EXPECT: Looking ahead to Metroplex Mania, Wisconsin will square off against North Texas, SMU and Wake Forest in doubles matchups along with facing SMU and Wake Forest again in singles matches. The tournament will start at 10 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, with Sunday's competition starting at 9 a.m.
