Future Badger Amos finishes 3rd, Hillger and Wick finish 4th

CORALVILLE, Iowa — In an uncertain year of postponed seasons and challenging training, this weekend's USA Wrestling Senior Nationals offered a bright spot in the otherwise quiet fall.

Three wrestlers with ties to the Badgers competed at the elite event against the country's best — Trent Hillger, Evan Wick and Braxton Amos.

"Proud of our effort this weekend with not ideal training situations. All the guys performed above expectations," said Wisconsin head coach Chris Bono. "Very proud of their preparation, but even prouder of the way they competed. They left it all out there!"

Current Wisconsin heavyweight Hillger, a redshirt junior at UW, finished fourth overall in men's freestyle at 125 kilograms (kg).

Fellow Badger Wick, who's currently taking a year away from Wisconsin to train for the Olympics, also finished fourth in freestyle at 74 kg.

Joining the two veterans, future Badger Amos competed in men's Greco-Roman and finished third overall at 97 kg against a seasoned field. After signing his national letter of intent last November, Amos will start at UW next year for the 2021-22 season.

Amos claimed third place after earning an 8-0 technical victory against Jeremiah Imonode (West Point Wrestling Club).

"This was a national tournament," Bono highlighted. "For Braxton to finish his first senior national tournament top three and Evan and Trent finishing fourth shows where our Badger program is going!"
