No. 14 Wisconsin welcomes No. 6 Michigan to LaBahn Arena
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 14 Wisconsin men's hockey team begins its home schedule with games on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 19-20, against No. 6 Michigan. Both games are slated for 6 p.m. starts.
The games begin a home stretch that includes six games in 11 days, with two each against the Wolverines, Penn State (Nov. 23-24) and Arizona State (Nov. 28-29).
Wisconsin will call LaBahn Arena its home to start the season as long as fan restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Opened in 2012, the Badgers use the facility for practice, while the Badger women's program plays its games in the building. The ice surface is 200-by-90 feet, seven feet less in width than UW's regular home arena, the Kohl Center.
Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:
1. CLEAN SWEEP: Wisconsin began the season last Friday and Saturday, capturing 2-0 and 5-3 victories at No. 20 Notre Dame.
On opening night, senior Linus Weissbach lit the lamp for UW with 6:55 to go in the first earning his and the Badgers' first goal of the season, the game-winner, after splitting Notre Dame's defense with senior Ty Pelton-Byce who also earned the first goal of the night Saturday.
Weissbach totaled a three-point weekend while sophomore Dylan Holloway had a two-goal series.
The Badgers held their own on special teams, going 3-for-4 (75.0 percent) on the penalty kill and 2-for-6 (33.3 percent) on the power play.
2. RACK IT & STACK IT: Graduate transfer goaltender Robbie Beydoun posted a 25-save shutout at Notre Dame last Friday.
He is the fifth UW goaltender to blank an opponent in his first start, and the first since Jack Berry made 28 saves on Nov. 5, 2016, against Northern Michigan at the Kohl Center.
Other shutouts in debuts include Bernd Brückler's 25-save shutout on Oct. 20, 2001, in a 5-0 win over Wayne State, Jim Carey posted a 22-save shutout on Nov. 1, 1992, in an 11-0 win over Northern Michigan. Wayne Thomas also began his career with a 22-save shutout on Nov. 16, 1968 in an 11-0 win over Pennsylvania.
The shutout helped Beydoun earn Big Ten Second Star of the Week.
3. IT'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA: Sophomore forward Dylan Holloway departed this week for Red Deer, Alberta, and Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp which will help select Canada's team for the World Junior Championship that runs Dec. 25-Jan. 5 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Holloway will miss the Badgers next 10 games.
He opened the season with goals in each of UW's first two contests, including the winner last Saturday in a 5-3 victory at Notre Dame. His goal broke a 3-3 tie in the third period.
Dating back to last season, freshman forward Dylan Holloway has four goals in his last five games and five points in those five contests as well as 11 points (7 goals) in his last 12 games.
4. SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: UW trails No. 6 Michigan 63-78-14 overall but holds an all-time, home-ice advantage with a 38-30-4 record.

Freshman forward Cole Caufield had moved into a tie for ninth Feb. 8 in all-time scoring as a freshman with 32 points total on the season while notching his seventh multipoint game of the season and second of the weekend with a pair of primary helpers.
Michigan cut their No. 12 preseason ranking in half after dominating performance then-No. 15 Arizona State last weekend. Outscoring the Sun Devils 11-1 overall, the Wolverines were led by a 16-point effort from their freshman class.
