Badgers host spring season opener in Arizona
MADISON, WIS. - The Wisconsin women's golf team is set to start the spring season as it hosts the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. on Sunday-Monday.
Here are five things to know before the first tee of the spring.
1. The Course: Westbrook Village Golf club features two courses, the Vistas course and the Lakes course. The tournament will take place on the Vistas course, a 6,252 yard links-style course. Designed by Ken Cavanaugh, the course is unique in that is offers a desert feel combined with wide fairways and large greens. Play will start at 9:30 a.m. CT on Sunday with a shotgun. The second round will start immediately after the first round concludes. Round three will also start with a shotgun at 9:30 a.m. CT on Monday.
2. The Lineup: The Badgers will be traveling with a full team as well as two individuals. Filling the five team slots are Tess Hackworthy, Eloise Healey, Bobbi Stricker, Tracy Lee and Emily Lauterbach. Competing on the individual side is Claire Fitzgerald and Nicole Ciskowski. To close out the fall season, senior Hackworthy and sophomore Lee both averaged 74.63 to lead Wisconsin. The team as a whole finished the fall averaging 289 per 18, 579 per 36 and 890 per 54.
3. The Field: This tournament consists of 16 teams. Participating teams are College of Charleston, Denver, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Missouri, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, UC Davis, UNLV and Wisconsin. Per Golfstat, Illinois is ranked No. 14 as of Nov. 26, 2019. Three new teams - College of Charleston, Kansas State and UNLV - join the field from last year as Michigan, Oregon State and Washington State are not returning. The remaining 13 teams all competed last year with Nebraska taking first (287-276-290= 853).

5. Looking Both Ways: The team finished the fall season averaging 297.72 strokes per 18 holes. Wisconsin closed the fall season at the Cardinal Cup on Oct. 20 with a season-low score of 890 and Tess Hackworthy and Emily Lauterbach both placed in the top 25, Hackworthy shooting an even 216 and Lauterbach at plus-seven (223). Next up for the Badgers is the Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California, on March 2-3.
