MADISON, Wis. — The No. 23 Wisconsin women's track and field team concluded its weekend's split-squad competition on Saturday at the Music City Challenge in Nashville and the Husky Classic in Seattle.Â
Josie Schaefer,
Destiny Huven and the members of Wisconsin's 4x400-meter relay continued to shine this season at the Music City Challenge while at the Husky Classic, several young distance runners set personal bests.
Another win for Josie
Redshirt sophomore
Josie Schaefer followed up her personal best and near record-setting win last weekend with another win at the Music City Challenge. Schaefer threw 56 feet, 4 3/4 inches to win the shot put, two inches off her personal best from last weekend and nearly three feet better than the second-place finisher. Schaefer threw 56-6 3/4 last weekend, which moved her into second place on Wisconsin's all-time top indoor performance list, trailing only Olympian Kelsey Card.
Inching towards History
True freshman Destiny Huven continues her phenomenal break-out season in the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal best time of 8.36 to finish third in Nashville. Her time was just .02 seconds out of first place and leaves her just .07 seconds short of the UW record. Huven has ran a personal best time in the hurdles at every meet she's competed in this season. She currently sits in second on Wisconsin's all-time top indoor performance list behind Deanna Latham, who set the school record of 8.29 in 2015.
UW's 4x400-meter relay squad consisting of
Ali Dorn,
Haley Lubow,
Gabby DesRosiers and
Bianca Stubler won their event in 3:41.45 at the Music City Challenge, nearly breaking the school record for the second week in a row. The relay currently sits in second on the Wisconsin all-time top indoor performers list with a mark of 3:40.82 set last weekend. That mark ranks fourth in the Big Ten. DesRosiers also finished fourth in the open 400 meters in 54.99 while Stubler was eighth in the 800 meters in a personal best of 2:10.19.
In the pole vault, senior
Rayce Albino cleared 13 feet for the first time this season, finishing fourth in the invitational event at 13-1 3/4. Sophomore Haley Orlowski finished second in the open pole vault at 12-4, just an inch and a half off her personal best. In the triple jump, senior
Meagan Blair was just a half inch off her personal best to finish fourth at 39-10.
The young distance squad of
Madison Mooney,
Alexa Westley,
Sarah Shulze, and
Hannah Reale all had personal bests this weekend in Seattle at the Husky Classic. Mooney ran a personal best time of 4:50.25 in the mile while also running a 2:17.32 in the 800 meters. Freshmen
