Sharp, Enz, Kugel and Hoare set No.3 all-time mark

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's track and field distance medley relay of Jackson Sharp, Colin Enz, Hudson Kugel and Olli Hoare made history in more than one way on Saturday. The team sent the distance medley relay to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, while the Badger throwers traveled to Milwaukee to compete in the Panther Tune-Up.

DMR breaks records at Notre Dame

The Badgers' distance medley relay now holds the school record with a time of 9 minutes, 25.84 seconds. Freshman Sharp ran the opening 1,200 meters in 2:56.1, sophomore Enz followed with a 47.6 leg in the 400 meters. Redshirt sophomore Kugel ran the 800 meters in 1:47.6 and senior Hoare ran the 1,600 meters in 3:54.1. The team came in four-hundredths of a second behind Notre Dame, which claimed gold. The times of both teams are the two fastest ever recorded in the men's DMR on an oversized track in collegiate history. The previous school record was set last year by Morgan McDonald, Stacey Boyd II, Eric Brown and Olli Hoare with a time of 9:26.24.

Panther Tune-Up

Three Badgers competed in the weight throw and swept the top three spots. Tucker Wedig led the way, coming in first with a mark of 69 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Austin Glynn took second (66-3) and Jamar Manning took third (64-3 1/4).

Up Next

The Badgers will head to Geneva, Ohio from Feb. 28-29 to compete in the Big Ten Championships.
