Badgers travel to Ohio to compete in championship meet

MADISON, Wis. - The No.24-ranked Wisconsin men's track and field team travels to Geneva, Ohio, to compete in the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. Friday is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET with the heptathlon 60-meter dash and end at 6:50 p.m. ET with the men's distance medley relay finals. Saturday is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles and end at 4:35 p.m. ET with the men's 4x400-meter relay finals. The full schedule can be found here.

1. LAST WEEK: Last weekend, the Badgers made history at Notre Dame. The distance medley relay of Jackson Sharp, Colin Enz, Hudson Kugel and Olli Hoare set a school record with a time of 9 minutes, 25.84 seconds. The team came in four-hundredths of a second behind Notre Dame, which claimed gold. The times are the fastest ever recorded on an oversized track in collegiate history.
At the Panther Tune-Up, Tucker Wedig, Austin Glynn and Jamar Manning swept the podium for the weight throw with Wedig taking gold (69-3 1/2), Glynn taking silver (66-3) and Manning rounding it out with bronze (64-3 1/4).
2. BIG TEN WEEKLY HONORS: The men and women's DMR won Big Ten weekly honors for their performances at the Alex Wilson Invitational. This is the second week that Wisconsin has be awarded Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors for both men and women.
3. NATIONAL RANKINGS: The men are currently ranked No.24 in the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll. Five Badgers are also ranked in the top 20 nationally for their respective events. Olli Hoare still holds the No.1 mile time in the country from his performance at the Millrose Games (3:56.47). The DMR holds the No.3 spot in the country and ranks first in the Big Ten. Zach Lorbeck is No.9 in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 5,675 and is ranked second in the Big Ten. Hudson Kugel holds the No.18 spot in the 800 meters with his personal best time of 1:48.94 and is ranked second in the Big Ten. Last but not least, Olin Hacker holds the No.19 spot in the 3,000 meters with a personal best time of 7:52.45 and is ranked third in the Big Ten.
4. LAST TIME BIG TENS: Last year, the DMR won gold with a time of 9:44.62. Badger alum Morgan McDonald won the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:37.85. Olli Hoare won the mile with a time of 4:02.67. Also making the podium was Rashid Coulibaly as he took home silver in the pole vault with a clearance of 17-6 1/4. Tucker Wedig took home bronze in the weight throw with a mark of 69-2 3/4. Closing out the podium for the Badgers was recently graduated, Trent Nytes as he scored 5,660 points in the heptathlon.
5. WHAT'S NEXT: Athletes that have qualified, or do qualify this weekend, will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15.
