PEORIA, Ariz. — The Westbrook Invitational came to a close on Monday afternoon and the Badgers saw a 13th-place tie, finishing ahead of two Big Ten opponents.
Wisconsin finished at four-over-par with a total of 869. This is the team's lowest score of the season, beating the previous best 890 at the Cardinal Cup by 21 strokes. The last time the Badgers shot 869 or lower was at the Mountainview Collegiate in March 2019 where the team also carded an 869 combined 54-hole score.
"Overall, I thought we hit the ball really well throughout the weekend," head coach
Todd Oehrlein said. "We needed to putt better and get more out of the rounds. I saw a lot of positive things that we can build upon. We'll have a good week of practice and it will be great to get to UC Davis next weekend."
Leading for the Badgers was
Eloise Healey, who finished T19th overall at three-under par 213. The England native shot career lows on 18, 36 and 54 holes. Her first round 69 rewrote her previous best 18-hole score of 73. She then went on to shoot 142 through 36 holes to mark a new low by four strokes. Most impressive, her 54-hole combined score of 213 (-3) shatters her previous record of 227, which she recorded earlier this season at the Cardinal Cup. She also made her first ever hole-in-one on No. 4 during the second round on Sunday.
"I was really happy with how steady I played." Healey continued, saying "I focused a lot on my irons and approach shots this winter and I feel like this paid off and gave me plenty of birdie opportunities."
Freshman
Emily Lauterbach also set career-lows for all three rounds. After finishing at one-over 217, she has a new 18-hole best of 71, 36-hole best of 144 and 54-hole best of 217, rewriting her previous best of 222 by five strokes. She finished second for the Badgers, tying for 37th overall.
Also with bests, sophomore
Tracy Lee tied her 36-hole low score of 146 and redshirt junior
Bobbi Stricker set a new 54-hole best at 228 strokes.Â
On the individual side, freshman
Nicole Ciskowski completed her first 54-hole tournament with the Badgers and set a 54-hole best score of 229 strokes (+13).
The Westbrook Invitational was won by Mississippi State with a 32-under-par 832. The medalist was Anna Zanusso of Denver, who finished at 16-under-par 200. She set a course record after shooting an 11-under-par 61 during round two.
"The overall tournament was another success and I can't thank Westbrook Village and it's membership enough." This is Oehrlein and Wisconsin's eighth year hosting the Westbrook Invitational.
Coming up next, Wisconsin will be headed to Sacramento, California, to compete in the Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club on March 2 and 3.
