Golf heads to Sacramento for second spring tournament
MADISON, WIS.— Wisconsin women's golf is set to compete in the Gunrock Invitational hosted by UC Davis at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California, on Monday-Tuesday.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off.
1. Westbrook Rewind: In a field of 16, the Badgers finished in 13th place, ahead of two Big Ten teams, at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona. The team recorded their lowest score of the season at five-under-par 869 for 54 holes.
2. Healey's Hole-in-One: Redshirt junior Eloise Healey had a career week at Westbrook. The Liverpool, England native got her first ace ever on the fourth hole of the Vistas Course at Westbrook Village Golf Club during the second round. She also scored career lows for all three hole denominations. She set new personal bests of 69 for 18 holes, 142 for 36 holes, and 213 (-3) for 54 holes. She shattered her previous 54-hole low score of 227, which she set back in October at the Cardinal Cup.
3. The Team: The Badgers are traveling with a full team and one individual. Competing for the team are Tess Hackworthy, Eloise Healey, Bobbi Stricker, Tracy Lee and Emily Lauterbach. Claire Fitzgerald will be competing as an individual. All six players competed last week at the Westbrook Invitational.
4. The Tournament: Del Paso Country Club is a 5,950 yard, par-72 course, which has hosted the U.S. Women's Amateur, the U.S. Women's Open and most recently the 2015 U.S. Senior Open. Round one will start Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT with round two immediately following the conclusion of round one. Round three will start Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. CT. All rounds are shotgun start. Teams competing include University of British Columbia, California, Cal Poly, New Mexico, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, South Dakota, Stanford (individuals only), UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Wisconsin.
