GENEVA, Ohio — The Wisconsin women's track and field team kicked off the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday with multiple phenomenal races. The Badgers scored 11 points on the first day, sitting in 10th place.
Destiny Huven and the distance medley relay consisting of
Lucinda Crouch,
Gabby DesRosiers,
Bianca Stubler and
Alicia Monson highlighted the day with a school record for Huven in the 60-meter hurdles and the DMR placing third.
Record for Huven
It was another record-setting day for true freshman Huven, and this one is the sweetest of them all. Huven has ran personal best, after personal best all season long in the 60-meter hurdles, and over the last few weeks has been on the brink of history. Huven broke the school record in the hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds. She broke Deanna Latham record of 8.29, five years to the day. Huven had fellow freshman and teammate
Melissa Symons just two lanes over, with both women running personal bests. Symons finished 16th in 8.64, which keeps her in eighth on the Wisconsin all-time top indoor performers list.
Huven isn't done just yet as she qualified for Saturday's final with the day's fastest time.Â
Distance medlay relay earns bronze
UW's distance medley relay squad consisting of
Lucinda Crouch,
Gabby DesRosiers,
Bianca Stubler and
Alicia Monson took home bronze with a time of 11:05.47. DesRosiers had an impressive 52 second split in the 400 meters and
Alicia Monson was fantastic as the last leg nearly closing the gap between first and second-place finishers, Michigan and Michigan State, respectively.Â
Redshirt sophomore
Jordan Hirsbrunner placed sixth in the pentathlon with a personal best score of 4,045 points, led by a first-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.89, two seconds faster than the rest of the field. Her score keeps her in sixth on Wisconsin's all-time top performers list.Â
Senior
Rayce Albino vaulted 12 feet, 11 1/2 inches to finish seventh for the Badgers making the podium and scoring points. Teammate
Hailey Orlowski wasn't far behind with a vault of 12-7 1/2. Orlowski's vault moves her into 10th on the Wisconsin all-time top performers list.Â
