Wisconsin finishes fourth overall at the Big Ten Championships, best since 2001
Bloomington, Ind. – The Wisconsin men's swimming & diving wrapped up its final day of competition at the Big Ten Championships, finishing in fourth place with 834.5 points – the team's best finish at the championships since 2001.
Senior Cameron Tysoe secured his second bronze medal of the championships with a 1:41.02 finish in the 200 back, while three of his teammates swam in the C-Final of the event. Freshman Drew Nixdorf (1:45.07), freshman Tadzio Kurka (1:45.18, new career-best) and senior Justin Temprano (1:50.92) touched in 19th, 20th and 24th overall.
Three Badgers dropped nearly 30 seconds on their entry time in the grueling 1650 free, as sophomore Matthew Hillmer (15:00.25, new career-best), freshman Jack Leuthold (15:14.66) and sophomore Graham Miotke (15:16.83) finished sixth, 10th and 13th overall. Senior Eric Geunes (15:24.99) and sophomore Robert Niemann (15:40.95) touched in 20th and 26th, respectively.
Seniors Griffin Back, Niko Stines and Kevin Braun joined junior Matthew Novinski to finish in fourth place in the 400 free relay, touching at 2:53.83.
In the 200 fly, senior Michael Milinovich finished in seventh place with a 1:44.69, while sophomore Frank Niziolek swam a new career-best 1:46.62 to place fourth in the C-Final (20th overall).
Senior MJ Mao was another Badger to compete in an A-Final, finishing in eighth place in the 200 breast with a time of 1:54.73. Sophomore Caleb Aman swam a new career-best of 1:57.25 to finish sixth in the C-Final (22nd overall).
In the 100 free, senior Griffin Back (43.77) and junior Matt Novinski (43.93) finished sixth and seventh in the B-Final, while seniors Kevin Braun (44.18) and Niko Stines (44.25) finished sixth and seventh in the C-Final.
