
Roque named WCHA Player of the Year

Senior becomes seventh Badger to earn the league’s top honor
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey senior Abby Roque earned the WCHA's highest individual honor Thursday as the forward was named the WCHA Player of the Year.
It marks the second-straight year a Badger has earned the honor as Annie Pankowski earned the award last year, and Roque is the seventh Badger to receive the accolade.
Thursday's WCHA Player of the Year honor capped off an incredible week for Roque as she was named a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Tuesday before taking home the WCHA Offensive Player of the Year award Wednesday.
Roque has enjoyed a stellar senior campaign for the Cardinal and White as she has a career high 25 goals and 57 points this year while her 32 assists matched her career-best mark set last year. The Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, native has five game-winning goals for UW this year, a team-best mark, and has played a critical role in UW's NCAA-leading power play which is operating at a .353 clip.
Roque has been stellar in the faceoff circle for UW has she leads the NCAA with 494 faceoff triumphs while her .663 faceoff clip ranks second in the nation.
The alternate captain has made several moves up the Badgers' record books as she became only the eighth Badger to record 100 career assists and also moved into the top-10 in points with 169. She also ranks in the top-10 in UW history in power-play goals, game-winning goals and plus/minus.
Roque and the second-ranked Badgers open postseason play Saturday at the 2020 WCHA Final Faceoff at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. UW opens the tournament against Minnesota Duluth in a 2 p.m. showdown Saturday.
