Five things to know: Badgers open spring season on Sunday

Badgers and Cyclones serve off at 1 p.m.
MADISON, Wis. -- For the first time since finishing as the NCAA runners-up, fans will have a chance to watch the Wisconsin volleyball team in action this Sunday. The Badgers (27-7) host Iowa State (17-12) in the UW Field House at 1 p.m. Doors open at noon and admission is free.
1. Strength returns: Wisconsin returns 12 letterwinners, including five starters, needing to replace its right-side hitter and libero. The Badgers return four All-American, including three-time first-teamer Dana Rettke and 2019 first-team selection Sydney Hilley. UW returns 87 percent of its kills, 85 percents of its service aces, 84 percent of its blocks and 63 percent of its digs.
2. USA, USA: Two members of the Wisconsin volleyball team have been named to the 28-player U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – Gold roster comprised of current collegiate players. Izzy Ashburn was one of four setters named while incoming freshman Devyn Robinson was one of eight middle blockers selected. In addition, Sydney Hilley and Danielle Hart will travel to Anaheim, California, to train with the national team over spring break.
3. Season records fall: The Badgers set five team season records in 2019, coming off their best 25-point rally scoring season for kills per set (14.38), assists per set (13.70), service aces (190), service aces per set (1.64) and points per set (18.61). In addition, Dana Rettke set season records for kills per set (3.75) and points per set (4.91). Sydney Hilley established the season record for assists per set (12.03) and Izzy Ashburn created the record for service aces (47) and service aces per set (0.41).
4. Great crowds: Wisconsin sold out all 17 home matches this season, ranking second nationally with an average attendance of 7,052 fans per match. This marks the 20th-straight season that UW has ranked among the top-five teams in the nation in attendance. Wisconsin drew 119,884 total fans this season, going over 100,000 fans in a season for the first time in program history, becoming just the third school to surpass 100,000 spectators in a season, joining Nebraska and Hawaii.
5. Scouting the Cyclones: Iowa State went 17-12 in 2019, finishing third in the Big 12 Conference standings at 8-8 and losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament to No. 15 Creighton, 3-0. ISU loses only one players to graduation and return its top two offensive players. Right-side hitter Eleanor Holthaus led the Cyclones with 3.18 kills per set while outside hitter Annie Hatch added 2.77 kills per set. Middle blocker Candelaria Herera had a team-best 1.03 blocks per set while setter Piper Mauck put up 10.27 assists per set.
