Noah's Winter Break Review
MADISON Wis.--  Redshirt junior Noah Jacobs shows us a first-hand point of view of life as a Badger track and cross country athlete in this year-long blog series. This week, Noah talks finals, the holidays, and reigning in 2020.Â
For the team, another academic semester has passed. In a short preview of the buttoning up the shirts, shining the shoes, and lack of preparedness overcompensation that comes with finals, we all take our few days and give our best toward those classes with large essays, projects or tests to conclude the semester. Luckily, coaches Mick and Gavin are awesome at communicating and helping us to prioritize our classwork at this time of year, while still instructing us through another week of training (those guys deserve a medal).
The final few days before many of us leave Madison and head home for the holidays, were filled with euchre with Seth Hirsch, Kav FitzPatrick, Conor Perreault, and whoever else was willing to play. Spending some time and relaxing with each other is one of my favorite parts of being a Badger. Watching football games, playing cards, sharing playlists, and even some special Derick Peters made desserts!
After returning home, I was fortunate to be safely reunited with some family, travel clear roads, and even begin training for the next semester of racing after injury. A few days before Christmas, I was reminded with how small our world really can be at times.Â
Rowen Ellenberg comes to small town Owosso, Michigan (where I am from) for a few days to visit some family most years around Christmas. Like going for a long run in Madison, we met up for some miles on a rail trail (crushed gravel trail where there was once a railroad) and got to discuss some of the things we were looking forward to with the holidays, the next semester, and beyond.
Thankfully, Ro put up with dragging me around for about an hour, listening to me spill whatever was on my mind, and even getting a few words in. The both of us love our grandmas baked goods for the holidays, and both of us will be in Florida for some time in January to get some good running in and soak up the sun!Â
Another year down, it was not perfect, not even close really, but I like to think that I did what I could to make the most of it. Thanks to a lot of people, the Badger family, the Jacobs family, and many other people that can offer a friendly smile, a few kind words, or just have a fluffy dog that makes you happy, I had some help.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year and the best for 2021!
