Badgers play host to Western Illinois, begin second half of B1G schedule
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer heads into this week on a four-match winning streak and have gone unbeaten in the last seven contests. The Badgers finish non-conference play with a home game on Tuesday against Western Illinois and head to Ann Arbor for a Friday night clash with Michigan.
Reigning Victorious: UW beat Ohio State on Friday to garner their third win in Big Ten play. The 2-0 shutout put the Badgers in second in the conference standings. Andrew Akindele and Ignasi Marques scored their second goals of the season in the victory.
Protecting the Net: Sophomore keeper Carter Abbott and freshman goalie Adir Raphael have shared playing time for the Badgers this season, which has helped the team to four straight games without allowing a goal. The program is also fourth in the NCAA with a .422 goals against average, which would sit second in UW men's soccer history.
Knocking off the Top: Wisconsin is shining against ranked opponents this season. Marquette, Rutgers, and Maryland came into matchups with the Badgers and all left with losses.
History with WIU and UM: UW owns a 10-3-2 record against Western Illinois. The programs last met in 2016 at McClimon when the Badgers beat the Leathernecks 3-1. Michigan leads the series with Wisconsin, 15-9-5. Wisconsin concluded its 2021 season with a 3-2 victory over the Wolverines. UW is 1-0-1 in the last two meetings between the schools.
