Final fall tournament for Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin men's golf is headed to Loxley, Alabama to compete in the Steelwood Collegiate Invite on October 30-31.
Here are five things to know before the team tees it up for the final time in 2021:
1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin finished third at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate on October 2-4. The team shot an 11-under-par 853 to mark a season-low. The Badgers had two players finish in the top-three. Cameron Huss shot a career-low 10-under-par 206 to finish second after carding an 18-hole career-low of 67 (-5) in the final round. Griffin Barela finished in third with an eight-under-par 208. Coalter Smith also finished in the top-20 and under par, coming in T18 with a two-under-par 214.
2. The Course: Steelwood Country Club is a private club located in Loxley, Alabama. Designed by U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate, Steelwood opened in 1997 and overlooks Steelwood Lake. The course was ranked a top-five private course in Alabama by GolfWeek in 2019. The course will be playing as a 7,096-yard par-72.
3. The Tournament: This will be Wisconsin's first time competing in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational which started in 2016. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Saturday will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and Wisconsin will play with Alabama-Birmingham and Missouri for both rounds. Sunday will be tee times running from 7:40- 9:46 a.m. off holes No. 1 and 10. Tee times will depend on how teams finish on Saturday.
4. The Field: Competing in the tournament are Alabama-Birmingham, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Alabama, Rutgers, host South Alabama and Wisconsin. Competing for Wisconsin will be Griffin Barela, Jacob Beckman, Cameron Huss, Graham Moody and Coalter Smith.
