MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer won its third game against a ranked opponent Sunday afternoon after knocking off the visiting Terrapins 1-0.
Last Time Out: The Badgers hosted its annual Pac the Mac/Alumni game in its Sunday matchup with Maryland. The Terrapins came into McClimon Soccer Complex at the top of the conference standings and leading the conference in shots and second in goals. Wisconsin held tight against the visitors and won with a 52nd-minute score by Andrew Akindele that was assisted by Ignasi Marques.
Strong in Conference Play: With a 2-0-1 record in conference play, the Badgers are second in the Big Ten standings. The program was picked to finish last in the preseason polls.
Akindele, Klancnik Recognized: Seniors Zach Klancnik and Akindele earned National Team of the Week honors this week for their performances against No. 8 Maryland. Top Drawer Soccer named Akindele to their team of the week after he netted his first goal of the season to aid the Badgers over the Terrapins on Sunday. College Soccer News honored Klancnik as a member of their Team of the Week because of his key contributions in the backfield to limit one of the top teams in the nation to a season low two shots on goal.
Brick Wall Back Line: UW leads the conference and is 9th in the NCAA in goals against average (.460) and save percentage (.857). The Badgers have not given up a goal in the past 355:45 of play.
History with the Buckeyes: Wisconsin has played well against Ohio State as they have won six games in a row against OSU. UW leads the all-time series between the two programs 18-17-3 and the Badgers have not allowed a goal to the Buckeyes in the past five contests.
