LA CROSSE, Wis. — Celebrating the Wisconsin wrestling community at the "Battle of the Bluffs," No. 23 Wisconsin rallied back from a starting deficit to defeat Little Rock, 32-13, on Friday at Mitchell Hall on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The unique event featured three duals — one each from Divisions one, two and three — in front of a boisterous crowd on the campus near the Mississippi River.
The Badgers began down, 0-3, in the dual after forfeiting the 125-pound match. But Wisconsin's Austin Gomez (149 pounds) and Trent Hillger (285) both earned pins against the Trojans to lead Wisconsin's rally back to victory.
In a dominant run by the upper weights, teammates Chris Weiler (184) and Braxton Amos (184) also each collected first period technical falls, 18-0 and 18-2 respectively, to ensure the Badgers' dual victory.
Garrett Model won by major decison, while freshmen Joseph Zargo and Dean Hamiti both won their matches by decision.
Wisconsin, now 2-0 overall, next travels to the Garden State Grapple at The Prudential Center in New Jersey during Thanksgiving weekend. The Badgers will wrestle North Carolina and Hofstra on Saturday, Nov. 27.
