Badgers shutout 3-0 by Notre Dame

Rowe stops 22 shots in defeat

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-8-0, 2-4-0 1-0-0) struggled to find their stride in a 3-0 loss to No. 15 Notre Dame (8-3-0, 2-2-0 0-0-0) on Saturday at Compton Family Ice Arena.

The Fighting Irish drew first blood on the power play, 7:26 into the first period. Grant Silianoff slipped the puck in the net off a pass from Nick Leivermann and Ryder Rolston.

Leivermann struck next after a faceoff win to give Notre Dame a two-goal lead at 19:14 in the first period, with help from Chase Blackmun and Max Ellis.

The Badgers battled well in the second period but gave up a late goal with one-minute remaining in the period when a wide point shot by Adam Karashik bounced off the back boards to Landon Slaggart, who got the puck to Hunter Strand of the Fighting Irish. Strand scored on the rebound after his first shot hit off the post.

Wisconsin headed into the third period faced with overcoming a three-goal deficit but were unable to turn the tide in their favor, falling 3-0 in the series finale.

The Badgers put up 22 shots on Notre Dame and goaltender Cameron Rowe made 22 saves in net.

UW went 0-for-6 on the power play against the nation's third-ranked penalty kill that has allowed just two power-play tallies against all season.
