ST. PAUL — The No. 1 Badgers defeated the Tommies with a 5-1 win on Sunday afternoon, securing the sweep in the first ever series between the two teams.
Five different players with multi-point games helped lead Wisconsin (15-0-1, 11-0-1-1) to a victory over St. Thomas (4-9-1, 2-9-1-0). Casey O'Brien, Sophie Shirley, Daryl Watts, Makenna Webster and Maddi Wheeler all had two points each.
Brette Pettet got the Badgers on the board early, scoring a goal off the first shot of the game just over a minute into play. Wisconsin went into the second up 1-0.
The Badgers had two quick goals early in the second as O'Brien netted the puck off a backhanded shot, followed by a goal from Shirley just 42 seconds later. Webster added onto the tally to get Wisconsin up four goals. St. Thomas scored a goal late in the frame and Wisconsin headed into the third up 4-1.
Sarah Wozniewicz put up Wisconsin's lone goal of the third period, bringing the score to 5-1.
