Wisconsin drops series finale 3-0 to Clarkson

Badgers put up 31 shots in loss

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team fell 3-0 to Clarkson (8-4-2-1, 3-2-1-0 ECAC) in the final game of their non-conference series at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (4-11-1, 2-6-0 1-0-0 Big Ten) had a difficult time getting anything past Clarkson's Ethan Haider.

Like the prior night's game, the Badgers and Clarkson held each other scoreless throughout the first period. Wisconsin led 9-7 in shots and successfully killed off the Golden Knight's one power-play opportunity.

Clarkson broke the ice two minutes into the second period courtesy of Ayrton Martino. Ryan Richardson won a battle for the puck down low in the Badgers' zone and threaded the needle to Martino as he crept into the slot and got his stick on the puck for a 1-0 lead.

Tempers rose towards the end of the second period leading to a series of roughing penalties that put the Badgers on the power-play but they couldn't convert with the extra man.

The score failed to reflect the Badgers' numerous quality chances. Senior forward Roman Ahcan was inches away from putting the Badgers on the board but unfortunately hit the post three times.

Clarkson's Anthony Romano scored to give his team a 2-0 lead at 11:10 in the third period. Martino scooped up the puck on the blueline and passed to Romano who trailed him into the zone and fired the puck into the back of the net.

Mathieu Gosselin scored an empty net goal at 19:23 assisted by Richardson to make the final score 3-0 Clarkson.

The Badgers outshot Clarkson 31-26 and Cameron Rowe had 23 saves in net.
