Badgers head to Ann Arbor for the first round of the 2021 Big Ten Tournament
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer is heading to the Big Ten tournament as the No. 5 seed and will play fourth-seeded Michigan in the first round on Sunday.

History in the Tournament: UW is 27-30-6 in the tournament and has advanced past the quarterfinals three times in its past four appearances.

Great Things Happen for Fifth-Seeded Badgers: In 2017, UW went into the Big Ten Tournament as the fifth seed and came out with its first-ever conference tournament championship with wins over Maryland (2-1) and Michigan (4-0). In the title match, they advanced past Indiana on penalty kicks, 4-2, after battling in a scoreless match for 110 minutes.

Advance on PKs:Â In the tournament, if the game is ties after two overtime periods, the team to advance to the next round of the tournament is decided by penalty kicks. The Badgers have faced a penalty kick shootout four times in the Big Ten tournament and have advanced past their opponent three times in those matchups.

Badgers, Wolverines History: Wisconsin trails the overall series against Michigan 9-16-5 and are 2-5-1 in the tournament against UM. The two teams met this season when the Wolverines bested the visiting Badgers 1-0 on a goal in the 68th minute. UW out shot them 10-7, including 6-1 on goal. Inaki Iribarren, Andrew Akindele, and Henri Tophoven each attempted two shots.

Top-10 Defense: The Badgers have only allowed 11 goals in 16 games this season, including eight team shutouts. Their .646 goals against average (GAA) ranks ninth out of all NCAA DI programs. Sophomore Carter Abbott's .767 individual GAA is good for 17th out of all keepers.
