Watts scores twice to lead UW into break with a sweep

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey wrapped up the 2021 calendar year with a 5-2 triumph at Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Center.

The Badgers (17-1-2, 13-1-2-1 WCHA) were led by a four-point outing by Daryl Watts as the senior had two goals and two assists. Brette Pettet, Casey O'Brien and Sophie Shirley also scored for the Badgers in the road triumph against the Beavers (6-10-2, 3-10-2).

Watts put the Badgers on the board just over halfway through the first, netting her third goal of the weekend. Pettet then lit the lamp near the end of the frame to send the Badgers into the second up 2-0.

The Beavers scored in the second to cut the Badgers' lead in half. O'Brien then scored a goal to get Wisconsin up 3-1 headed into the final frame.

Bemidji State scored a second goal to cut Wisconsin's lead back to one. Watts answered with a goal on a two-player advantage before Sophie Shirley added an empty-net strike to put the game out of reach.
