Badgers open indoor track season

Hacker runs No. 4 time in men's 5,000 meters
ALLENDALE, MICH. -- Distance runners from the Wisconsin men's and women's track teams made their indoor season debut at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Friday evening. Â

Standing out for the Badgers was graduate student Olin Hacker. Hacker recorded a personal best time of 13 minutes, 37.02 seconds in winning the men's 5,000 meters, running the fourth-fastest indoor time in Wisconsin's history.Â
The Badgers showed much promise in their season opener, winning three events and running nine personal best times.
In addition to Hacker, first-place finishes came from Alissa Niggemann in the women's 3,000 meters (9:18.90) and Shea Ruhly in the 5,000 meters (16:21.08).

Niggemann, Victoria Heiligenthal, and Adam Spencer ran best times in the 3,000 meters. For the 5,000 meters, Danielle Orie, Stella Gillman, and Jackson Sharp recorded career bests. Freshman Liam Belson ran a personal best in the 800 meters as well.
