Senior stands out in community, classroom, character and competition
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's basketball senior Brad Davison was announced Tuesday as a candidate for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the court.
One of 30 men's basketball candidates recognized, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete, recognizing senior student-athletes who stand out in community, classroom, character and competition.
Davison has been a team leader for Wisconsin since he stepped onto campus as a freshman, not only on the court but also off the court as well. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native has appeared in over 135 career games, including over 130 starts. Davison ranks top 11 in Wisconsin's career record books for points, steals, free-throw percentage, 3-point field goals, games started and minutes played.
Last season, Davison became just the 12th Badger to reach the 100-career start milestone. He also became the 43rd player in school history to amass 1,000 career points – and just the 20th Badger to do so by his junior season.
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Davison recently earned his undergraduate degree in business: management and human resources in the spring of 2021. He is currently on track to graduate in the spring of 2022 with a master's degree in educational leadership and policy analysis.
Selected by coaches to be a member of the team's leadership council for over three years, Davison is an active member and representative for "Athletes in Action," an inclusive organization where students and athletes can explore spirituality, be involved in Bible studies, peer spiritual mentoring and social events.
In the community, Davison is an active participant with Wisconsin's "Badgers Give Back" community outreach program, leading the team in community service hours in each of his seasons on campus. He has committed over 60 hours of his personal time and participated in nearly 50 different "Badgers Give Back" community service events. Immediately volunteering once on campus back in June of 2017, Davison has participated in events such as: Pen Pal program with local elementary schools, granting wish experiences to numerous children over the past five years, Badger Prom with Wisconsin Upside Down, visits to children at American Family Children's Hospital (even sending messages and doing virtual visits during the pandemic).
Davison is the latest in a lineage of Badger qualified to win the Senior CLASS Award. Most recently last season, D'Mitrik Trice was named a candidate for the award. In 2017, both Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig were recognized as candidates for the award. Frank Kaminsky and Jon Leuer were among the 10 finalists for the award in 2014-15 and 2010-11, respectively. Alando Tucker won the Senior CLASS Award in 2007.
The men's and women's candidates will be narrowed to two fields of 10 finalists in late February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four and NCAA Women's Final Four this spring.
