KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Wisconsin golf finished in ninth place at the Kiawah Invitational on Tuesday afternoon after recording rounds at four-under-par, even par and one-over.
The team went 284-288-289 to finish with a three-under-par 861. The Badgers finished ahead of Big Ten competitors Rutgers, Michigan State and Maryland.
"I'm very encouraged with what I saw this week," said head coach
Michael Burcin. "We are deep one through five and we made a lot of birdies."
Between the five players competing for the team, 51 total birdies were marked, including 19 in the first round.
Round one on Sunday was postponed due to weather and was played on Monday morning. In the first round,
Sam Anderson shot a 67 (-5) in round one to tie his career-low 18-hole score.
Redshirt senior
Nick Robinson recorded the lowest score in round two with a two-under-par 70. Wisconsin was able to finish, but play was suspended due to darkness and most of the field finished the second round early Tuesday morning. The Badgers finished the second round with an even-par 288 to total 573 (-4).
Individual entry
Jack Blair recorded an 18-hole career-best 71 (-1) in the second round. He also improved his career-best 36-hole score by one stroke to 146.
Cameron Huss,
Coalter Smith and
Griffin Barela all shot an even 72 to lead the Badgers through the third and final round on Tuesday. Wisconsin shot a one-over-par 289 to wrap up the tournament.
Huss was the top-finisher for the Badgers, coming in tied for 30th with a one-under-par 215. The freshman had rounds of 69-74-72, marking career lows for 18, 36 and 54-hole scores. This was his first regular tournament competing for Wisconsin.
"I'm really happy with what
Cameron Huss is doing and how he's handling himself as well," said Burcin.
"I hit the ball well this week and placed myself in position for the best chance for success," said Huss. "Going forward there will be a focus on putting to help me play better."
The team has just over a month off of competition. The Badgers return to the course on March 28-30 for the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, South Carolina.
