Badgers come up just short against Iowa

Wisconsin suffers tough 4-3 loss on Friday

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team battled down to the wire against Iowa, but came up just short in singles and suffered a 4-3 loss on Friday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
 
The Badgers started off strong winning the doubles point. Junior Ava Markham and sophomore Charmaine Seah were the first for UW to pick up a win, defeating Iowa's Michelle Bacalla and Danielle Burich, 6-3. Rookie Nastasya Semenovski and sophomore Xinyu Cai clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Iowa's pair of Alexa Noel and Samantha Mannix.
 
While Wisconsin ultimately lost the dual match, Seah and senior Anna Makarova brought home wins in singles. Seah locked in straight sets to beat Vispasha Merha, 6-1, 6-3, while Makarova made a comeback in the second to ultimately dominate her third set against Michelle Bacalla, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0.
 
Up next, Wisconsin hosts Nebraska on Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
