LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team opened its 2021 spring campaign with a 1-0 win over Iowa on Saturday night at the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two complex in Loves Park, Illinois.
With the win UW head coach
Paula Wilkins became the winningest coach in program history with her 152nd win with the Badgers, passing Dean Duerst for the school record.
Wisconsin scored the lone goal of the game nine minutes of the match as
Claire Odmark scored her first career collegiate goal, volleying the ball into the net to give UW a 1-0 lead.
Emma Jaskaniec earned an assist on the play.
2019 first-team All-American
Jordyn Bloomer stopped the only shot she faced in the second half to earn her 20th career shutout.
Notes to Know:
- Saturday marked UW's first game since facing UCLA in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Nov. 22, 2019.
- The Badgers improved to 13-5-4 all-time against the Hawkeyes and extended their unbeaten streak to eight games against Iowa.
- Iowa outshot UW 5-3 and had four corner kicks compared to three for Wisconsin.
- Sophia Romine, Jessie Hunt, Dara Andringa, Porter List and Ali Fine all made their Badger debuts on Saturday.
