Wisconsin wins first road match of season

Badgers earn 4-3 victory over Illinois in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Wisconsin women's tennis team earned its first road win of the Big Ten season on Friday, battling to a 4-3 victory over Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.
 
The Badgers (3-3, 2-2 Big Ten) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after clinching the doubles point. Xinyu Cai and Nastasya Semenovski were the first duo to win their match, 6-2, against Asuka Kawai and Josie Frazier of Illinois. Antonela Stoica and Anna Makarova clinched the doubles point by winning their tiebreak to win their match, 7-6 (7-5).
 
Stocia won the second point of the dual match for Wisconsin by locking in a straight-set win against Sasha Belaya, 6-0, 6-2. Semenovski shortly followed, defeating Josie Frazie, 6-2, 6-4. Junior Ava Markham sealed the match for the Badgers by beating Emilee Duong, 6-2, 6-3.
