LEESBURG, Fla. — The Wisconsin softball team dropped a 3-2 eight-inning contest to Ohio State on Friday at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
The Badgers (4-5, 4-5 Big Ten) were led by
Fiona Girardot, who had two hits to pace the team in its series finale against the Buckeyes (5-4, 5-4).
UW jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as
Megan Donahue doubled home
Ally Miklesh to give UW an early advantage.
The Badgers extended their lead to two in the third as
Morgan Kummer began the inning with a double and scored on a Girardot single.
However, Ohio State scored twice in the fifth inning to make it a 2-2 game and UW and OSU went into extra innings for the second time in three games.
OSU scored in the top of the eighth to take a 3-2 lead and the Badgers were unable to answer in the bottom half of the frame.
Haley Hestekin started for UW and went five innings, giving up two runs and not allowing a walk, while
Abby Herbst finished the game in relief, pitching three innings while giving up only two hits.
