UW returns to action on March 26 against the Wildcats
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin softball team returns to action this weekend with a four-game series at Northwestern this weekend. First pitch at Sharon J. Drysdale Field on Friday is set for 3 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale will begin at noon. All four games can be seen live on Big Ten Network+.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers faced two tough tests in Florida on March 11-14 with series against Ohio State and No. 23 Michigan. The Badgers earned a 10-1 run-rule win against the Buckeyes, but dropped its other five contests, three by two runs or less, in the Sunshine State. Freshman Peyton Bannon had a team-high six hits during UW's second weekend in Florida while Ally Miklesh hit a team-best .400.
2. MAGNIFICENT MADDIE: Maddie Schwartz made Badgers' history while in Florida as she pitched a school-record 13 2/3 innings during the Badgers' 7-5 15-inning setback to the Buckeyes on the first day of the tournament. Schwartz had 11 strikeouts during the game and threw 152 pitches. On the season Schwartz has a 2.40 ERA with 29 strikeouts and three complete games.Â
3. FRESHMEN STEPPING UP: Through 12 games of the season, Peyton Bannon and Skylar Sirdashney have shined for UW. Bannon is hitting a team-best .316 in 10 games for UW while Sirdashney has a team-high nine hits and a .273 batting average. Sirdashney is also tied for the team lead with four RBI with Megan Donahue.Â
4. AGAINST NORTHWESTERN: The Badgers trail the all-time series with Northwestern 37-21. The Badgers were swept by Northwestern during the 2019 season after earning series wins during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.Â
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers will play their first home games in almost two years when they welcome Illinois to Goodman Diamond. First pitch on Friday, April 2 is set for 3 p.m., while the doubleheader on Saturday, April 3 is at noon. The series finale will be shown live on BTN at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 4.Â
