MADSION, Wis. – Thanks to first half goals from
Emma Jaskaniec and
Cameron Murtha, the Wisconsin women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Maryland on Thursday afternoon at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
The Badgers struck first in the seventh minute as Jaskaniec scored off a feed from
Maia Cella to give UW a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later, the Badgers doubled the advantage as Murtha took a cross from
Lauren Rice to tally her 18th career goal and to give UW a 2-0 lead it would never relinqiuish.
Jordyn Bloomer saved all five shots she faced to earn her sixth shutout of the year, which leads the Big Ten Conference.
Notes to Know
- Jaskaniec has a team-high three goals this year and all three of her goals this year have been game-winning tallies.
- Rice made her first start of the year for UW and recorded her first assist of the season.
- Thursday marked UW's first game in Madison since Nov. 15, 2019.
- The Badgers have allowed only six goals in nine games this season.
- The Badgers had six corner kicks to the Terps five.
- The Badgers also had 17 total shots, including six on target.
- UW improved to 4-0-2 all-time against Maryland, outscoring Maryland 9-2 in the six meetings between the two teams.
