Badgers fall in series finale to Wildcats

Wisconsin comes up just short with a seventh inning homerun

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin softball team came up just short, falling 6-5 in the series finally against the Northwestern Wildcats Sunday afternoon in Evanston, Illinois.

The Badgers (4-12) offense struggled to string hits together against the Wildcat (15-1) ace Danielle Williams, but the offense Wisconsin was able to produce was key to the Badgers keeping the game within range for a final push in the seventh inning.

Tied at two all in the fourth inning thanks to a Christaana Angelopolus double that brought in two runs for Wisconsin, the Wildcats responded with four more runs in the two coming innings.

In the top of the seventh, the Badgers found two baserunners off of Alyssa McClelland and Peyton Bannon singles. That's when Megan Donahue gave the Badgers some hope with the biggest hit of the game, rocketing a home run to left field to make it a one-run ball game.

With the bases cleared, the Wildcats were able to close out the Badgers with a final strikeout and pop-up.
