Badgers travel to Florida for first outdoor meet since 2019
MADISON, Wis. - The Badgers travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in the B1G Florida Invitational, their first outdoor meet since 2019 due to the cancellation of the 2020 season. The meet will be held at Hodges Stadium on Friday and Saturday. The men's field events will begin at 11 a.m. CT starting with the long jump, with 110-meter hurdles kicking it off for track events at 1:20 p.m. CT.Â
Live results will be posted on AdkinsTrackTiming. Fans can follow the action on Instagram and Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and catch a recap following the meet on UWBadgers.com.
1. SPRINTS:Â Sopohmore Lawrence Johnson will make his outdoor debut for the Badgers this weekend as he competes in the 100-meter dash. Johnson had an impressive indoor season, placing fourth at the Big Ten Championships in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.76 seconds. That time landed Johnson at the No.8 spot on Wisconsin's all-time indoor performance list. The Waunakee, Wisconsin, native has proven that he can hang with the top of the sprinting pack.
2. 400-METER TRIO:Â Three Badgers will compete in the 400-meter dash this weekend -- Abdullahi Hassan, Jon Burt and Max Peckenschneider. This will be this first outdoor college season for this trio. Hassan had a phenomenal indoor rookie season, the most notable being his NCAA Championship qualification. The Toronto, Ontario, native has proven himself in the 600 meters as well as the 800 meters so what's a couple hundred meters less?
3. 800-METER DUO: Austin Rendon and Hassan are schedule to compete in the 800-meter invitational. Rendon placed sixth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 1:51.54. Hassan competed in the 800-meter at the NCAA Indoor Championships, placing 11th in the semi-finals with a time of 1:49.58, which granted him econd-team All-American honors. Hassan also sits at No.8 on Wisconsin's all-time indoor performance list from his performance at the SPIRE where he ran 1:48.61. The duo is looking to continue their success during outdoor season.
s4. JUMPS: Peyton Frankenreider will compete in the triple jump and long jump this weekend. Frankenreider was on the team and able to compete in the 2019 outdoor season, so this will not be foreign ground to him. The Yorkville, Illinois, native has a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 9 3/4 inches for outdoor season, which was set in 2019. He will be able to show his improvement in the long jump and compete in the triple jump for the first time at an outdoor meet.
5. THROWS:Â Freshman Andrew Stone will make his outdoor season debut as well, competing in the discus for the first time since becoming a Badger. Stone threw a personal best of 61-0 in the shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, earning him a fifth-place finish. After recovering from an injury, the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native looks to continue his success and progress this outdoor season.Â
