Stellar Six: UW extends winning streak to six thanks to 6-4 win

Badgers take down Nebraska in season-opening game

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Wisconsin softball team extended its winning streak to six games thanks to a 6-4 triumph at Nebraska on Friday night at Bowlin Stadium.

The Badgers (13-16) jumped out to quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Fiona Girardot hit her eighth double of the season and was sent home by Megan Donahue to give UW a 1-0 lead. Donahue later scored after Skylar Sirdashney singled down the right field line. Abby Herbst scored the final run of the inning, touching home thanks to Christaana Angelopulos.

Nebraska (15-14) cut the lead to 3-1 after hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the first and came close to adding more in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, but UW turned a double play to get out of the inning.

UW added to its lead in the top of the fourth as Morgan Kummer and Ally Miklesh both scored on a wild pitch to increase the Badger advantage to 5-1.

Nebraska tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the UW lead to two.

The two teams traded solo home runs in the seventh inning as Donahue hit a solo jack to left center in the top of the seventh before Nebraska hit one in the bottom of the inning.
