LINCOLN, Neb. – The Wisconsin softball team continued its winning ways on Sunday, overcoming a 3-1 deficit to defeat Nebraska, 9-3, at Bowlin Stadium.
After Sunday's win, the Badgers (15-17) have won 10 of their last 12 games dating back to April 9 and won their third-straight series.
Nebraska (16-16) took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after a two-RBI double.
An inning later,
Skylar Sirdashney put the Badgers on the board with a solo home run, her third dinger of the season.
The Huskers quickly answered with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 3-1 lead over the Badgers.
After a scoreless third
Morgan Kummer sent a two-run home run over the left field fence to drive in
Ally Miklesh from second, and tie the game at 3-3.
The Badgers fifth-inning rally began with a mammoth solo shot by
Megan Donahue, her team-leading sixth blast of the year, and her third home run of the weekend against the Huskers.
Sirdashney and Kummer followed with RBI singles, and
Peyton Bannon drove in another run with an RBI double, putting the Badgers up 8-3.
After loading the bases in the top of the sixth,
Lauren Foster hit a sacrifice fly to left field and drove in the Badgers ninth run on the day.
Haley Hestekin started the game in the circle before giving way to
Maddie Schwartz. Schwartz picked up her third win of the weekend, pitching the final 5 2/3 innings, allowing no runs and only two hits while striking out six Huskers.
Batting Cleanup
- This marks only the second time in school history UW has won a series at Nebraska with the other coming during the 2018 season. The Badgers have now won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Huskers.
- The Badgers' 15 hits were a team-best this year.
- Nine different Badgers collected hits as Donahue,
Abby Herbst, Sirdashney, Miklesh and Kummer each had two hits on the day.
- Schwartz is now 7-2 in April with 47 strikeouts during the month.
