Badgers travel to Minnesota for two-day meet

MADISON, Wis. - The Badger men's track and field team travels to Minneapolis to compete in the M City Classic on Friday and Saturday. Field events begin on Friday with the men's hammer throw at noon. Running events will begin at 4:50 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles. On Saturday, all events begin at 11 a.m. Â

1. GO L.O.: Lawrence Johnson, who has recorded personal bests and earned spots on the Wisconsin all-time outdoor performance list this season, will compete in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Johnson currently sits at No.10 all-time for Wisconsin in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.40 seconds, right behind his dad, who ran 10.37 in 1976. He will be joined by freshman Max Peckenschneider in both dashes as well as the 4x100-meter relay.
2. LOADED FIELD IN THE 1500 METERS: Seven Badgers are scheduled to run in the 1500 meters behind sophomore Jackson Sharp, who ran a personal best time of 3:42.06 at the B1G Invite #3 two weeks ago. He is scheduled to be joined by Austin Rendon, Jack Meijer, Olin Hacker, Rowen Ellenberg, Nick Hruskoci and Tannor Wagner in two heats. All but Wagner are scheduled to compete the first heat.Â
3. FRESHMEN IN THE 5000: Three Badger freshman are scheduled to compete in the 5,000 meters on Friday at 7:35 p.m. Bob Liking, Evan Bishop and David Vannucchi lead the list of qualifiers with Liking leading the list at 14:04.69. Bishop has run 14:20.13 this season. Vannucchi is also scheduled to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
4. MOVING UP IN THE THROWS: Andrew Stone will compete in the discus on Friday and the in the shot put on Saturday, looking to improve his personal best of 61 feet, 9 3/4 inches in the shot put set last weekend. His throw ranks seventh on the UW top-10 list. In the hammer, Cole Hooper and Dan Ufearo have moved into the top 10 on the Badgers' all-time list. Hooper ranks sixth at 201-9 while Ufearo ranks seventh at 189-11. The hammer is scheduled for Friday at noon.Â
5. HASSAN IN THE 400 METERS: Freshman Abdullahi Hassan will work on his speed this weekend, competing in the 400-meter dash on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. The NCAA indoor qualifier in the 800 meters is also scheduled to run a leg on the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
