MARIETTA, Ohio — The Wisconsin men's rowing completed their first race of the season by winning all three events versus Marietta College Saturday on the Ohio River.Â
Fair weather conditions and a heavy current helped each boat finish with incredibly quick times. The varsity eight edged Marietta's top boat by 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 5:03.41.Â
Wisconsin's second varsity eight won by five and a half seconds with a time of 5:14.31. Marietta finished with their best time of the day across all three boats, recording a time of 5:20.89.Â
The third varsity eight erupted out of the gate, leading for the entire 2000 meters to finish ahead of Marietta with the largest margin of victory of the day. Wisconsin crossed the line a little over 30 seconds before Marietta's third boat. The Badgers finished with a time of 5:14.85.Â
Up Next: The Badgers will play host to Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, April 24.Â

Head Coach Chris Clark
"Our guys really had to earn that race. The one hallmark of a team that hopefully will gel is that in competition you look better than you have in practice and often that's the way it's supposed to be. Not always does it go that way, but today it was better. There's a long way to go and it's been pretty rough and scrappy based on not having gotten consistent rowing. But all of a sudden it was significantly better.Â
"Everybody did pretty well, much better than they had. That's not to say there's not a lot of room for improvement, but you could hear the guys talking in the boat. These guys really went after it. So it was really a great course.
"We have that 24th race at home against a Milwaukee School of Engineering and really a big series a month from this weekend in Boston and we'll have a lot to do before then. At some point we have to replicate, we're looking for a few good days of water and start to replicate some of that stuff that we missed in winter."
