CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Senior Seth Hirsch ran among the top-six runners during the 10,000 meters, finishing fourth in his final Big Ten Conference championship.

Hirsch led the Badger men's track and field team to four top-11 finishes in the race, crossing in 29 minutes, 11.49 seconds. Freshman Evan Bishop had an impressive Big Ten outdoor debut, placing sixth in the vent in 29:22.70. Another freshman, Bob Liking, finished just out of scoring, crossing in 29:31.59 for ninth place. Junior Charlie Wheeler took 11th in 29:53.34.

After three events, Wisconsin sits in seventh place in the team race with eight points.

In the only other final for the Badger men, redshirt freshman Cole Hooper took eighth in the hammer throw at 197 feet. Junior Dan Ufearo took 10th at 190-3.

Finals Qualifiers

The Badgers picked up three qualifiers to Sunday's finals.

Sophomore Jackson Sharp finished third in his heat of the 1500 meters in 3:45.30 to automatically qualify for the final. Freshman Jack Meijer took fifth in his heat and eighth overall to earn an at-large qualifying time of 3:44.05.

Freshman Davis Wenthe qualififed for the final of the 400-meter hurdles, placing ninth overall in 52.60.

Sophomore L.O. Johnson ran a personal best time of 21.15 in the 200 meters but finished 13th overall, failing to advance to the final.

Ambor and Herkert competing in decathlon

In the decathlon, freshmen Cade Amborn and Max Herkert are 12th and 16th, respectively, after the first five events. Amborn's best finishes came in the high jump, where he took sixth with a clearance of 6-4 1/4, and in the long jump, where he took sixth with a leap of 22-8. Herkert tied for ninth in the high jump at 6-0 3/4.

The Big Ten Outdoor Championship continues tomorrow and Sunday at Demirjian Park on the University of Illinois campus. Events begin with the decathlon 110-meter high hurdles at 11:30 a.m.
