Wisconsin wraps up day two of Big Ten Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Two school records fell on the second day of the 2021 Big Ten Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday for the Wisconsin women's team.
Senior Alissa Niggemann broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while sophomore Destiny Huven broke an eight-year old record in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the only other final for the Badgers, freshman Mackenzie Heyroth competed her first career heptathlon, finishing 12th with 4,844 points. Heyroth finished eighth in the heptathlon javelin, with a personal best toss of 115-10 while she also took eighth in the heptathlon 800 meters in 2:26.87.
After six events, Wisconsin sits in ninth place in the team race with 14 points.
Junior Madison Mooney also has the fastest qualifying time, winning her heat of the 800 meters in 2:05.83. Her time is a personal best, keeping her at No. 8 on the UW all-time performance list.
Freshman Kiley Robbins qualifies for Sunday's final in the 100 meters, running 11.80.

Niggemann finishes second in steeplechase
Niggemann was among the top-four runners for the entire seven-lap race, sitting in fourth place before the final water jump. The Amherst, Wisconsin, native moved up two places over the last 100 meters, finishing second in 9 minutes, 48.91 seconds. Minnesota's Abby Kohut-Jackson won in 9:47.51. Niggemann's time broke her own record of 9:53.54 set in 2019 and ranks eighth on the NCAA qualifying list this season. Three qualify for finals
Huven sped to a school record of 13.03 in the 100-meter hurdles, advancing to Sunday's final with the fastest qualifying time. The Milwaukee native broke the UW record of 13.27 set by Deanna Latham in 2013. Huven improved her previous best time by 0.40 seconds.Junior Madison Mooney also has the fastest qualifying time, winning her heat of the 800 meters in 2:05.83. Her time is a personal best, keeping her at No. 8 on the UW all-time performance list.
