Badgers win pair of C/D semifinals on day two

SARASOTA, Florida – UW showed off its improving speed on the second day of the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championships when it won C/D semifinals in the varsity eight and varsity four events at Nathan Benderson Park.

UW just missed out on the A/B semifinal on Friday when an oarlock popped in the home stretch of the race and the Badgers took third in the afternoon repechage. On Saturday, UW took care and beat out Washington State, Navy, Northeastern and Marist to win its C/D semifinal and reach Sunday's C Final for places 13-18 in the event.

The Badgers' second varsity eight, the lone boat in a Saturday A/B semifinal, placed sixth and will race in Sunday's B Final for places 7-12.

Like the varsity eight, UW's varsity four won its C/D semifinal in comfort, besting Princeton, Navy, Rhode Island and Marist for the top spot. They will race Sunday in the C Final for places 13-18.

Head coach Bebe Bryans

"Today went very well. Our goal in the varsity eight and four was to win the race, setting them up well for the finals tomorrow. We were all realistic about the 2V's chances to be in the top three, and their goal was to solidify their execution and to get ready for the final. All three boats were really successful and we are looking forward to racing our hearts out tomorrow."
