EAST LANSING, Michigan – Thanks to a three-run home run by
Lauren Foster and a dazzling performance in the circle by
Maddie Schwartz, the Wisconsin softball team earned a 3-0 win over Michigan State on Sunday at Secchia Stadium.
Sunday's win gave the Badgers (17-19) their 12th win in their last 16 games and helped UW earn a series split against the Spartans (11-22).
UW's offense got off to a great start in the top of the first. Badger hitters
Ally Miklesh and
Abby Herbst drew walks to put runners at first and second base.
Lauren Foster then plated both of these runners by sending a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to give UW a 3-0 lead it would never relinquish.
That run support was all that junior
Maddie Schwartz needed as she pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out 11. In addition, Schwartz did not issue a walk during her complete-game outing.
