MADISON, Wis. – UW men's soccer continues its five-game non-conference homestand with matchups against Western Michigan and DePaul this weekend.
Looking to rebound: The Badgers finished the opening weekend 0-1-1 with a 1-1 tie against SIUE and a 2-1 loss versus Green Bay.
Executing set pieces: Both UW goals over the weekend came off set pieces. In the matchup with SIUE, Andrew Akindele sent a cross off a free kick finding Moritz Kappelsberger for his first career score as a Badger. On Sunday, Zach Klancnik threw in the ball to Aron Eli Saevarrson who headed it to Iñaki Iribarren to put UW up 1-0 against Green Bay.
UW Perfect Against Western Michigan and DePaul: The all-time series against the Broncos belongs to the Badgers 4-0-0. The two programs last met in 2013 with UW securing the win 3-2. Wisconsin leads the series with the Blue Demons 8-0-0. The teams also played last in 2013 with the Badgers winning 3-2 in overtime.
Abbott Saving the Half: In Sunday's match with Green Bay, the sophomore keeper made two impressive saves to keep the score locked at 0-0 going into the second-half. Through 155 minutes of play, Abbott has only allowed one goal with eight saves.
Free Admission to Games: Fans are invited to every game at McClimon Soccer Complex and regular-season admission is free. Kickoff on Thursday against Western Michigan is set for 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. for Sunday's afternoon game with DePaul.
