MADISON, Wis. – A pair of goals by Iñaki Iribarren paced the Wisconsin men's soccer team (3-2-3) to a 2-0 victory over in-state rival Milwaukee (3-3-0) Tuesday night.
The victory improved the Badgers to 3-0-1 in the last four contests
UW got off to a quick start with their first score in the first half this season. The goal came off the first corner kick of the game on a cross into the box by
Andrew Akindele to Iribarren, who finished with a header into the back of the net.
"We've been struggling to get a goal in the first half," Iribarren said. "That gave us some confidence."
The Badgers added another goal in the 56th minute on a pass combination from Akindele to
Zach Klancnik and Iribarren netted his second goal on the night.
Akindele's two assists mark the first time he has had multi-assists in a game. He now has three on the year.
Adir Raphael got the start in goal for the Badgers and added his second shutout of the season. Wisconsin is the only school in the Big Ten with two keepers with two clean sheets this year.
The win also gives UW a 2-0 record against 2020 NCAA Tournament teams.
Wisconsin heads east to No. 21 Rutgers for their second conference matchup of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and can be viewed on BTN+.
