MADISON, Wis. – Winners of five straight, the No. 13 Wisconsin men's basketball team looks to extend its winning streak when it hosts No. 16 Ohio State on Thursday night at the Kohl Center.
Â
Before the Badgers and Buckeyes collide, here's the Starting Five:
Â
1.) B1G Road Win: UW earned its fourth win in conference play at Maryland on Sunday night, which moved them into a tie for third place in the Big Ten standings with this Thursday's opponent, Ohio State.
Tyler Wahl scored a career-high 21 points, while
Johnny Davis added 19 and
Brad Davison finished with 11. Wisconsin big man
Steven Crowl had a well-rounded night with nine points and eight rebounds, including a late 3-pointer to give UW the lead for good.
Â
Â
2.) Let's Go Streaking:Â Winners of five straight, Wisconsin's last loss came on the road at Ohio State earlier this season on December 11, 2021. Since that 73-55 setback, the Badgers have put together a 5-0 winning streak. Sophomore
Johnny Davis is averaging 25.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game during that span. The Buckeyes are 2-1 since last matching up against the Badgers in December.
Â
3.) Player of the Week: Johnny Davis was recognized by several groups after he led the Badgers to three wins over the course of seven days last week. Davis earned Co-Player of the Week in the Big Ten, as well as National Player of the Week distinction with the Oscar Robertson Trophy, the Naismith Award, ESPN.com and NCAA.com.
4.) Hot at Home: Wisconsin is 7-1 when at home this season, including wins over Indiana, Iowa and Marquette. The program's overall record at the Kohl Center is 330-58 (85.1%), which holds a better winning percentage than the two previous homes for UW basketball – The Field House (.633) and The Red Gym (.843).Â
Â
5.) Buckeye History: UW trails the overall series against Ohio State, 94-75, but leads the series for games played in Madison, 49-34, including a 13-7 advantage at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin has won six of the last ten games against the Buckeyes, including a 61-57 victory last season on the road against the then-ranked No. 5 Buckeyes in Columbus. Thursday's meeting will mark the 12th between the two programs with both ranked in the top 20 of the AP Top 25 poll.
