
Five events to watch: Two Meets, One Goal

Badgers head to Kentucky and Indiana
MADISON, Wis.- The Wisconsin women's tack and field team continues its indoor season, competing at two different meets this weekend. Distance runners will be traveling to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete at the Indiana University Relays on Friday- Saturday. Events will start at 4 p.m. CT Friday and 9:45 a.m. CT on Saturday. Wisconsin faces athletes from Butler, Indiana, Miami (OH), Ole Miss, North Carolina and Southeast Missouri,
Athletes competing in sprints and jumping events will travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the Rod McCravy Invitational on Friday-Saturday. Events will begin at 3 p.m. CT on Friday and 11 s.m. CT on Saturday.
Here are five events to watch this weekend.
1. LOVING L.O.: Junior Lawrence Johnson already has two personal bests to start the indoor season. Last weekend at the Wieczorek Invitational, Johnson finished second in the 60-meter dash in 6.66, which ties him for second all time at Wisconsin and ranks him second in the Big Ten. Johnson will also be competing in the 200 meters, being joined by Colin Enz and and Ellliott Harris in the one lapper. Enz and Harris are scheduled to compete in the 400 meters along with Robby Hatch and Davis Wenthe
2. HOPPING HEPTATHLETES: A quartet of Badgers are set to compete in their first heptathlon of the season at Indiana on Friday and Saturday. Returnees Cade Amborn. Max Herkert and Quinn Lansill will be joined by fifth-year transfer Jack Herkert. Jack is the older brother of Max and competed at Stanford University for four seasons. The first four events of the heptathlon begin at 4 p.m. CT on Friday with the second-day's events starting at 8:40 a.m. CT on Saturday.
3. WELCOME BACK ABDULLAHI: Sophomore Abdullahi Hassan makes his sophomore-season debut at Indiana this weekend, competing in the 600 meters. Hassan ranks eighth at Wisconsin in the 600 meters (1:18.11) and eighth in the 200 meters (1:48.61). He competed in the World U20 Championship in Kenya this past summer, looking to put his international experience to work this season.
4. DREAM TEAM IN THE MILE: Freshman Adam Spencer leads a group of five Badgers scheduled to compete in the mile. Three sections will compete in the race with the fastest two sections running on Saturday. Spencer ran 3:58.00 as a prep in Australia and will be challenge by two other sub-four minute milers in Jesse Hunt from North Carolina (3:57.02) and Nick Foster from Michigan (3:58.65). Wisconsin's Shuaib Aljabaly and Jack Meijer will also compete on Saturday. The Badgers also have a strong field in the 3,000 meters in Olin Hacker, Rowen Ellenberg, Jackson Sharp and Aljabaly entered in the fast heat.
5. FAVORITES IN THE FIELD: Senior Canon Melstrand will be competing in this week's pole vault, coming off a personal best of 16 feet, 0 ¾ inches at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational last weekend. Alongside him will be sophomore Chandlar Ifft, who has a personal best of 16-1 ¾, and freshman Hunter Cook. Competing in the triple jump will be Connor Barfknecht, who won the triple jump and had a personal best at the Wisconsin Midwest Invitional at 56-10 1/4. Senior Peyton Frankenreider will be competing in the triple jump as well
