MADISON, Wis. – After winning the individual title at the Illinois Open while also leading the Badgers to the team crown, Wisconsin women's cross country senior Peyton Sippy has been named the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

It marks the first weekly honor for Sippy as she's the first Badger to earn women's cross country athlete of the week honors since Alicia Monson earned the honor on Oct. 23, 2019.

A native of Janesville, Sippy crossed the 5K course on Friday in Champaign 17 minutes, 28.1 seconds and was one of four Badgers to finish in the top-five at the team's final tuneup before postseason competition.

UW won its third title of the season thanks to a score of 17 points as UW defeated conference rivals Illinois and Iowa in the process.

The Badgers head to Ann Arbor, Michigan this week for the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championship on Friday. The women's 6K is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. CT and can be seen live on B1G+.
